Mazda MX-5 Miata
The Miata has been a popular lightweight sports car since it’s unveiling in 1989. The first Miata was built according to a design selected after multiple rounds of competition. Having taken some of its original design cues from European sports cars of the 60’s, the Miata has evolved considerably over four generations.
The newest Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport packs a front mid-mounted Skyactiv 2.0 litre DOHC 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine with VVT. It produces 155 hp @ 6000 rpm and 148 lb-ft of max torque @ 4600 rpm. Electronically controlled fuel injection and an impressive compression ratio in this efficient gasoline engine give the car a city fuel efficiency of 27 mpg, with manual transmission powering the rear wheels. Mazda also offers a 6-speed sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
The car’s chassis is a unibody monocoque construction with high rigidity and strength. Near perfect weight distribution and the use of lightweight components gives this sports car its world-class handling.
