10) Chevrolet Volt
The Volt is a hybrid car with plug-in capability. It was first rolled out by GM in 2010. The primary driving force comes from two electric motors that work in unison to optimize efficiency and conserve electric charge. They also provide more than sufficient power and torque.
When the battery is depleted, the car’s internal combustion engine runs a generator to charge it. The 1.5 litre direct injected engine is highly efficient.
The car can run for 53 miles on electric power alone. With a full charge and a full tank of gas the car can run for 420 miles. Chevy expects that with regular charging, owners will be able to drive as many as 1,000 miles before each fuel stop.
The car also has regenerative braking to conserve energy and improve mileage, as well as range. Starting retail price in the US is $33,220.
